Making It Happen - Talking Risk and Innovation with Community Foundation President Diana Sieger

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 - 11:30am1:00pm

Perhaps you’ve heard it said that nonprofits should operate more like businesses? To that sentiment, Diana Sieger, president of Grand Rapids Community Foundation says, “thanks, but no thanks”. Nonprofits know a thing or two about doing more with less, and our sector employs many brilliant minds working to solve social and economic disparities. Sieger believes nonprofits need to focus less on operating like a business and more on innovation and taking strategic risks. She’ll talk about this and how to advance ideas within your organization at the next YNPN-GR luncheon.

BIO: Diana Sieger is president of Grand Rapids Community Foundation, a position she has held since 1987 (that’s right, this year marks her 25th anniversary!). She was the organization’s first full-time employee and in her time the Foundation has grown from $35 million in assets to over $250 million today.

Diana earned a Masters of Social Work degree from Western Michigan University focusing on Policy, Planning and Administration. Her career extends 38 years with a passion for excellence in making positive impact in every facet of community life. She currently serves on the Council on Foundations Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Her awards and accolades are extensive and include being listed 4 times among GRBJ’s 50 Most Influential Women and a YWCA Tribute Award. The Foundation is also an 8-time winner of a 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in West Michigan Award and this year the National Association for Business Resources named it one of the Best and Brightest in the Nation.
