Development Director

The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Alpha Grand Rapids (AGR) fundraising including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, as well as the Community Relations Department in all development and fundraising endeavors.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet prospective donors to establish relationships and ongoing communication with them
  • Build a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors
  • Develop a church engagement strategy to better involve churches in events, fundraising, and volunteer opportunities and improve communication with churches
  • Conduct grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting or other follow-up requirements
  • Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts
  • Direct capital campaigns
  • Coordinate fundraising special events, such as capital campaign luncheons
  • Assist the community relations department with major fundraising events (Banquet and Walk for Life) by soliciting corporate sponsors, table hosts, and attendees
  • Oversee research of prospective donors
  • Make public appearances / accept speaking engagements to share information about Alpha with the community
  • Collaborate with other fundraising staff in the community relations department
  • Maintain gift recognition programs, including the development of a tracking and thanking plan for donor milestones
  • Perform other related duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Must be a committed Christian and faithfully attend a local church. Must agree with the AWC Statement of Faith and demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with AWC Core Beliefs
  • Must passionately embrace the mission of Alpha Grand Rapids
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills. Must be able to interact with both individuals and groups, at times presenting publically in front of large audiences
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Be organized and exhibit follow through on tasks and goal
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times
  • Must have strong administrative skills, including knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as prior experience working with donor databases
  • 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35,000.00 to $45,000.00 /year
